Preparation
Preparing for this treatment is very simple. Just wash your face with a gentle cleanser on the morning of your treatment, and don’t use any makeup, lotions, sunscreen, or topical medications on your face. Once you get here, we’ll wash your face against to make sure everything is perfectly sterile.
During Treatment
This is not a painful treatment, but we understand that some people are a bit concerned about needles or anything that’s poking at their face. If that’s a problem for you, just talk to us about a numbing cream. We can apply that 15 minutes or so before treatment, and you won’t feel a thing.
Dermabrasion
This section of your treatment involves making the finest of pinprick dots in your skin, which stimulates collagen production. This part of the treatment doesn’t hurt at all. It’s a bit like having sandpaper brushed over your skin, and it provides a channel for the radio-frequency energy, which causes the deeper tissues to heat and contract, signally to your body to produce more collagen.
After Treatment
This is not an invasive treatment, which means there’s not much in terms of post-treatment that you need to worry about. Yet there are some things you can do that will give you the best possible results.
First, go home and rest if you can! You’re asking your body to make more collagen and get to work rejuvenating your skin. It needs strength to do that, so if you can afford to take a day, do so! You’ll also the best results if you eat well and take great care of your skin in the days following your treatment.
Take Care of Your Skin
It will take about three to four days for the upper layers of your skin to peel off so the fresh, smooth layers beneath can regenerate. There are some things you can do to make this process as simple as possible.
Stay Away From Your Face!
It’s really tempting to “help” the process by peeling off your skin manually, but this can have some unintended consequences, like increased risk of acne breakouts and even infection. So leave your face alone!
Keep Your Hair Up
One of the biggest reasons we inadvertently touch our face is because we’re brushing the hair out of our faces. You can keep this from happening by wearing your hair up for a few days.
Wash Carefully
You don’t want to irritate your skin with anything, so be gentle as you wash. Use a very gentle soap that’s made especially for the face, use warm water, and pat your face dry rather than rubbing it vigorously.
Moisturize: But Not Too Much!
You want to skin to peel: that’s the whole point of this treatment! That means you don’t want to slow down the process by adding too much moisturizer. You should use some moisturizer, but make sure you don’t use too much and be sure to use a gentle one. Vaseline is a really good moisturizer to use, and applications once or at most twice a day are plenty.
Stay Out of the Sun
The sun is definitely your skin’s worst enemy, and that applies whether you’ve had a treatment or not. The sun sends out UV rays that destroy your collagen and tell your skin to produce less collagen to replace it. The sun is behind the vast majority of the signs of aging and can undo the benefits of your treatment if you’re not careful. For the first month after treatment, be very careful of your fresh, new skin.
Avoid going outside when the sun is at its strongest, which is typically from 10 am to 4 pm. When you do go out, be sure to wear a sunscreen of at least SPF 30, and take advantage of natural protection like shade trees, hats, and umbrellas.
Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?
This is a good treatment for any type, tone, or texture of skin, but there are a few things that could keep you from being a good candidate.
