When you are young, you have tight, firm skin that is resistant to the effects of gravity. Over time, however, the structure of your skin may change, and you can develop loose, sagging skin on your face, neck, and other areas of your body. If this loose skin bothers you, there is something you can do about this. At Veda Medical in Cibolo, TX, we can tighten your skin with Fractora. Read on to learn how this fantastic treatment can address your loose skin, acne, and other imperfections.
Does Fractora Tighten Skin?
Let’s get right to the big question, and the answer we all want to hear. Yes, Fractora definitely tightens skin! Skin tightening is one of the biggest benefits of this treatment, though it’s certainly not the only one.
How It Works
Aging Hits Us
The aging process hits our skin from two sides. On the one hand, skin starts to sag because our existing collagen—which holds up our skin and gives it firmness—is starting to wear away. This can happen because of weight loss, too much alcohol, constant smoking, UV damage from too much sun exposure, pollution, a diet of heavily processed food, and more.
Aging also gets us by causing our body to produce less collagen over time. Our production begins to slow about the time we turn 30, and from then on, we lose between 1% and 2% per year. Over time, that really adds up. But where aging hits us from two directions, Fractora hits back.
How Fractora Hits Back
The first part of the treatment—the dermabrasion—creates micro-injuries that your body immediately goes to work to heal. These injuries aren’t enough to harm you, but they do tell your body to get to work repairing the collagen to be even stronger than before.
The second part of the treatment—the radiofrequency energy—penetrates to the deeper levels of the skin and warms them, inducing your body to ramp up its collagen production. The result? With stronger collagen and more of it, your skin tightens, smooths out, and looks years younger.
Other Amazing Benefits
The skin tightening effect is amazing, but we love this treatment because it can do even more than that. Here are just a few more benefits that make this such an effective and popular treatment:
It Works for Everyone
A lot of skin treatments come with some really strict requirements. You aren’t a candidate if your skin is too dark, too light, or of the wrong texture. Your hair may have to be precisely the right color for you to be a candidate.
This is a truly colorblind treatment. Whatever the color of your hair and whatever tone or texture your skin, this treatment can work for you. There’s no risk of burns or other unwanted side effects.
It Smooths Out the Skin
When you combine dermabrasion with the RF energy in this treatment and ramp up collagen production, you do a lot more than just tighten the skin. You’ll notice the effects all across your skin at every level. One of the key things that collagen will do is to add volume, and as it does this, it smooths out your wrinkles.
Wrinkles appear on our faces for a number of reasons, but one of the main ones is volume loss due to lowered collagen production. As your collagen output grows, your face will plump up (in a healthy way), and wrinkles and lines disappear.
It Zaps Those Dark Spots
Dark spots on our skin are a natural result of aging, and for the most part, they’re due to sun exposure. Some of us will have more than others just because of our genetics, while for others, it’s really all about spending too much time outside in the sun unprotected.
Those spots aren’t easy to hide with cosmetics, but Fractora can actually cause them to fade. The RF energy in this treatment heats up the dermis (which is where those darkened skin cells reside) and causes them to die. They’re then replaced with fresh, new, clear skin.
It Gives You a Smoother Texture
Loose skin and wrinkles aren’t the only dreaded sign of aging. For some of us, the aging shows in just a generally ruddy and dull look to the skin. Our skin may start to look a bit leathery and feel rough and uneven.
The resurfacing portion of this treatment is perfect for getting your skin to turn over those cells and make new, healthier ones. This will give you a more even texture and a younger look.
It Doesn’t Interfere With Other Treatments
This is an amazingly effective treatment, but it doesn’t correct every single skin problem you might face with aging. Some of our wrinkles have more to do with facial movements than with collagen, and for these wrinkles, a neuromodulator like Botox is the answer.
Fortunately, Fractora can be used with neuromodulator treatments, and there’s no need to wait for weeks before you can get treatment or worry about restrictions.
It Only Gets Better With Time
Because much of the power behind this treatment comes from ramped up collagen production, it takes a bit of time for the full results to appear. But that means things only get better and better as that collagen goes to work, and by two to three months in, you’ll have your full results. Those will last a year or even more.
Preparing for this treatment is very simple. Just wash your face with a gentle cleanser on the morning of your treatment, and don’t use any makeup, lotions, sunscreen, or topical medications on your face. Once you get here, we’ll wash your face against to make sure everything is perfectly sterile.
This is not a painful treatment, but we understand that some people are a bit concerned about needles or anything that’s poking at their face. If that’s a problem for you, just talk to us about a numbing cream. We can apply that 15 minutes or so before treatment, and you won’t feel a thing.
This section of your treatment involves making the finest of pinprick dots in your skin, which stimulates collagen production. This part of the treatment doesn’t hurt at all. It’s a bit like having sandpaper brushed over your skin, and it provides a channel for the radio-frequency energy, which causes the deeper tissues to heat and contract, signally to your body to produce more collagen.
This is not an invasive treatment, which means there’s not much in terms of post-treatment that you need to worry about. Yet there are some things you can do that will give you the best possible results.
First, go home and rest if you can! You’re asking your body to make more collagen and get to work rejuvenating your skin. It needs strength to do that, so if you can afford to take a day, do so! You’ll also the best results if you eat well and take great care of your skin in the days following your treatment.
Take Care of Your Skin
It will take about three to four days for the upper layers of your skin to peel off so the fresh, smooth layers beneath can regenerate. There are some things you can do to make this process as simple as possible.
Stay Away From Your Face!
It’s really tempting to “help” the process by peeling off your skin manually, but this can have some unintended consequences, like increased risk of acne breakouts and even infection. So leave your face alone!
Keep Your Hair Up
One of the biggest reasons we inadvertently touch our face is because we’re brushing the hair out of our faces. You can keep this from happening by wearing your hair up for a few days.
You don’t want to irritate your skin with anything, so be gentle as you wash. Use a very gentle soap that’s made especially for the face, use warm water, and pat your face dry rather than rubbing it vigorously.
Moisturize: But Not Too Much!
You want to skin to peel: that’s the whole point of this treatment! That means you don’t want to slow down the process by adding too much moisturizer. You should use some moisturizer, but make sure you don’t use too much and be sure to use a gentle one. Vaseline is a really good moisturizer to use, and applications once or at most twice a day are plenty.
Stay Out of the Sun
The sun is definitely your skin’s worst enemy, and that applies whether you’ve had a treatment or not. The sun sends out UV rays that destroy your collagen and tell your skin to produce less collagen to replace it. The sun is behind the vast majority of the signs of aging and can undo the benefits of your treatment if you’re not careful. For the first month after treatment, be very careful of your fresh, new skin.
Avoid going outside when the sun is at its strongest, which is typically from 10 am to 4 pm. When you do go out, be sure to wear a sunscreen of at least SPF 30, and take advantage of natural protection like shade trees, hats, and umbrellas.
Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?
This is a good treatment for any type, tone, or texture of skin, but there are a few things that could keep you from being a good candidate. The best way to find out if you’re a candidate is to come to talk to us. We’ll discuss your skincare goals, consider your medical history, and think about your current health concerns and any medications or supplements you’re taking.
For the most part, any generally healthy person who is noticing moderate to deep folds and wrinkles, fine lines, loose skin, and issues with discoloration, spots, or skin texture is a good candidate. It is worth knowing that if your wrinkles are primarily due to muscle movement, we’ll likely advise you to try a different treatment.
