What Should You Expect From Rhinoplasty?

rhinoplasty in san antonio

It’s normal to feel unhappy with the size, shape, and overall appearance of your nose. Fortunately, at Veda Medical in Live Oak, Texas, we can reshape your nose with a rhinoplasty in San Antonio. Using this cosmetic technique to change the size and shape of this facial feature can transform your face and raise your self-confidence.

What Should You Expect From Rhinoplasty in San Antonio?

A rhinoplasty in San Antonio is an aesthetic procedure that is used to improve the appearance of your nose. During this procedure, we will use advanced techniques to make your nose narrower, remove a bump from your nose, correct a bulbous tip, or make other adjustments to this facial feature. When you receive this procedure, you should expect these changes to improve the harmony between your nose and the rest of your facial features.

Seeing Your Final Results

Since your nose is unique, there is no specific time when you are guaranteed to see the final results of your procedure. That said, the healing process is likely to alter the appearance of your nose for several months. In general, you should expect to be ready to go out in public within two weeks after you improve your nose.

After about three months, you should expect to have a fairly good sense of how your nose will look once you finish healing. After about half a year, your tissues should be mostly healed, and the improvements in your nose should be more visible. You will probably see the final results of your nasal procedure after about one to three years.

What Will My Initial Consultation Be Like?

During your first meeting with us, we will look at the outside and inside of your nose. During this examination, we will carefully analyze the structure of your nasal bones and cartilage. We will also take photographs of your nose. These images will help us determine which techniques to use when we perform your procedure.

We will also discuss the aspects of your nose that bother you. To help us understand the changes that you would like to see in your nose, you could bring along photographs of friends, celebrities, or other people with noses that you admire. At this point, we will talk to you about the changes that you can realistically expect to achieve in your nose. If you are happy with our proposed improvements, we can schedule a time to perform your procedure.

How Should I Prepare for This Procedure?

We will probably advise you to stop taking St. John’s Wort, aspirin, ibuprofen, and other supplements and medications that thin the blood before you get this procedure. These medications can disrupt your body’s ability to heal after your nasal procedure is complete.

In addition to avoiding blood-thinning medications, you should not smoke before and after you get this procedure. Smoke inhalation makes it difficult for the tissues in your body to heal after we reshape your nose. Quitting smoking is a good way to strengthen your cardiovascular system and help your tissues heal more quickly. In fact, quitting smoking before your procedure will break this damaging habit and improve your health in the long run.

What Techniques Can Be Used to Improve My Nose?

We can use an open or closed rhinoplasty in san Antonio to change the size and shape of your nose.

An Open Procedure

If you want to make extensive changes in your nose, we may advise you to receive an open procedure. During an open procedure, we will make a small incision at the base of your nose.

Since this incision will help us get a clear view of the structures inside of your nose, this technique can be a good way to address a wide variety of nasal issues. After we make this incision, we can fix asymmetries and other issues that we were not able to see when we initially examined your nose.

A Closed Procedure

During a closed procedure, we will make all of our incisions on the inside of your nose. This technique can be a great way to avoid developing a scar on your nose. Using this type of procedure can also reduce the length of your recovery time. If you are making minor corrections to your nose, this method may be a good option for you.

What Will My Nasal Procedure Be Like?

Under most circumstances, you’ll receive general anesthesia before we begin improving your nose. Once you are unconscious, we will begin to change the size or shape of your nose.

Enhancing Your Nose

Depending on your cosmetic goals, we might begin this process by breaking your nose and taking away some of the cartilage and bone material in this area of your body. We may also add cartilage to the tip of your nose. We can obtain this cartilage by removing material from your ribs, ears, and other areas of your body.

Completing Your Procedure

After we have finished reshaping your nose, we will use stitches to close your incisions. We will also put a splint or a cast onto your nose. We will carefully monitor you as the anesthesia wears off and you begin to wake up. Once you are more alert, you will probably be able to go home and start the recovery process.

Will I Need to Take Off Time From Work After I Improve My Nose?

You should plan on taking time off from your job and resting at your home for one or two weeks after you receive this nasal procedure. During this time, you can help your nose heal by following all of our instructions. Although these instructions will depend on the type of nasal procedure that you received, there are some general guidelines that you should keep in mind while your nose is healing.

Take a Rest

During the next two weeks, you should not take an exercise class, do a challenging workout at the gym, or engage in other difficult physical activities. In addition, for the next three months, you should not play tennis, volleyball, or other sports that could cause your face to be hit by a ball or other object.

Change Your Sleeping Position

To help your tissues recover from your procedure, you should elevate your head for the next one to two weeks. You can use pillows to keep your head in the proper position during the nighttime.

Adjust Your Diet

Eating very spicy or salty meals can increase swelling and delay the healing process. To help your nose recover, you should avoid these foods for a while. It’s a good idea to eat soups, mashed potatoes, and other low-sodium, easily digestible foods during the next couple of days.

Go to Follow-Up Appointments

As your nose is healing, you’ll need to come to our office for follow-up appointments. Depending on the type of nasal procedure that you received, you will need to wear a splint or a cast over your nose for the next week or so. When you have your follow-up appointments, we may remove your splint or cast. In addition, we may give you steroid shots that will help to decrease the swelling in your nose.

Will My New Nose Be Permanent?

It’s normal for the changes in your nose to last for the rest of your life. That said, this procedure will not stop your skin and body from continuing to change as you get older. In particular, elasticity loss, changes in your nasal cartilage, and other factors will cause your nose to slowly become longer and larger as you get older.

Will I Have Noticeable Scars on My Nose After I Recover From This Procedure?

This procedure is designed to reshape your nose without creating noticeable scars on your face. If you receive a closed procedure, you will not have any scars on your nose or another location on your face.

If we use the open method to enhance your appearance, we will need to make a small incision at the base of your nose. Since this incision is very small, you should not have a noticeable scar after you are fully recovered.

Will Insurance Pay for Me to Improve My Nose?

If you are improving your nose for aesthetic reasons, your insurance typically will not cover the cost of your procedure. That said, your insurance may pay for part of your costs if this aesthetic technique is combined with a procedure that improves your ability to breathe through your nose.

Receiving Other Nasal Procedures

You could receive a septoplasty in connection with your aesthetic procedure. A septoplasty is a medical procedure that can be used to fix a deviated septum. A deviated septum occurs when the bone and cartilage that is located between your two nasal passages is crooked. This condition can make it difficult for air to move through these passages.

A septoplasty will improve your airflow by straightening your septum. If you are receiving a septoplasty or other medically necessary procedure at the same time as your rhinoplasty in San Antonio, your insurance may pay for some of the fees that are associated with your cosmetic procedure.

Am I a Good Candidate for This Aesthetic Procedure?

You’ll need to wait until your nose has stopped growing to use this cosmetic technique to improve your appearance. In general, your nose will have reached its adult size by the time that you are eighteen.

In addition to having a fully developed nose, you’ll need to be healthy enough to receive general anesthesia. To ensure that you are eligible for this procedure, we will analyze your nose and talk about your health when you come to our office in Live Oak for your initial meeting. At this point, we will let you know if you can use this technique to change the appearance of your nose.

Will My New Nose Look Artificial or Unnatural?

You may feel nervous when you decide to change the size or shape of your nose. In particular, you might worry that changing your nose will cause your face to look artificial or unnatural.

Fortunately, we will customize your procedure to create a new nose that is in harmony with your other facial features. Once you have finished recovering, your new nose will look very natural. In fact, many people may not realize that you received a nasal procedure. Instead, they might notice that you look more beautiful without pinpointing the specific facial feature that has improved.

Improve Your Nose

You shouldn’t spend the rest of your life feeling sad about the shape, size, and overall appearance of your nose. Receiving a rhinoplasty in San Antonio is a fantastic way to minimize bumps on your nose, decrease the size of your nose, and make other cosmetic changes to this facial feature.
